Kennesaw State Owls vs the Keiser University Seahawks

    KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State Owls hosted the Keiser University Seahawks Wednesday night in the Convocation Center. The Owls kicked things off by honoring 6-8 senior forward, Demond Robinson for scoring his 1000th career point in the first game of the year vs. Oakwood University. The Owls also honored first-year head coach, Antonie Pettway, for his first career head coaching win which was also in the first game of the year vs Oakwood.




    First Half Notes: The Owls started things off a little slow letting the Seahawks jump out to an early 4-0 lead. The Owls struggled mightily from behind the three-point line early starting off the game 0-12 before senior 6-8 forward and UAB transfer Rongie Gordon knocked down a three at the 11:55 mark in the first half and provided the Owls a much-needed spark off the bench in the first half adding 8 points, and 10 rebounds (5 offensive, 5 defensive). Keiser sophomore guard, Nirobi Peeler Jr. lit a spark off the bench for the Seahawks starting the game off 4-6 from 3-point range and adding 12 points before halftime. The Owls proceeded to go on a 21-7 run for the last 4:25 of the first half to take a commanding 46-29 lead into halftime while shooting just 15-45 from the field (33.3%) and 7-32 from 3-point range (21.9%)


    Second Half Notes: The Owls came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and quickly proved to be the much more superior team thanks to the Seahawks shooting a dreadful 1-17 (5.88%) from three. The Owls finally found their stroke from behind the three-point stripe and shot a much more efficient 23-42 (54.76%)  from the field and 7-20 (35%) from three in the second half.  The Owls manhandled the Seahawks 55-26 in the second half to take a commanding 101-55 victory over Keiser.

         Game Notes:

  • Kennesaw State came into this game ranked first in the nation in rebounding averaging 55.0 rebounds per contest, and added to that total Wednesday night by grabbing 63 rebounds (20 offensive, 43 defensive) vs Keiser.
  • Sophomore guard, Simeon Cottle led all scorers with 20 points while shooting 8-22 from the field and 3-13 from behind the arch.
  • UAB transfer and 6-8 senior forward Rongie Gordon had a very solid performance leading the way with 14 rebounds (5 offensive 9 defensive) 4 assists, as well as adding 8 points.
  • Senior guard, Quincy Ademokoya, also contributed 15 points to the Owls total and shot an efficient 3-7 (42.9%) from behind the arch.
  • Sophomore guard Nirobi Peeler Jr. provided a spark off the bench for the Seahawks scoring 12 points in the first half while shooting 4-6 from 3 and finishing the game with 16 points and 6-13 from the field.
  • The Owls were able to garner 48 points in the paint vs Keiser, including 19 second-chance points.
